What you should know about chronic kidney disease?

Chronic kidney disease refers to the buildup of waste and harmful substances in the blood since your kidneys cannot do it for you. The balance of fluid also gets imbalanced along with the rise in blood electrolytes at the time of CKD. Chronic kidney disease is a life-threatening condition that needs to be treated right away or else it progresses to end-stage renal failure.

Your doctor might suggest dialysis as a CKD treatment for your recovery. But this is not the only go-to option. Ayurveda is another treatment that can help preserve kidney function and rejuvenate the damaged cells and tissues of the renal. Ayurvedic medicines are better than dialysis for various reasons, first is because of their diuretic properties which allow the urine to pass naturally from the body.

Dialysis, on the other hand, is done with the help of a machine to filter the toxins within the blood. Since it is a machine, it does not know how much to remove substances from the blood. It is not able to preserve much-needed nutrients and electrolytes needed for the body vitalization and so many complications appear out of this.

What are the symptoms related to chronic kidney disease?

Chronic kidney disease is a long-standing problem that takes time to develop. During CKD, the kidneys may or may not show any sign of damage to them. This is because our kidneys have a larger capacity to work beyond they are expected to. Some patients feel fine until the last time but still, have low kidney function.

Signs related to chronic kidney disease are:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Loss of appetite

  • Fatigue and weakness

  • Sleep problems

  • Changes in your urination

  • Decreased mental sharpness

  • Muscle twitches and cramps

  • Swelling of feet and ankles

  • Persistent itching on the skin that is untreatable

  • Chest pain

  • Shortness of breath when fluid builds up in the lungs

  • High blood pressure

  • Anemia

  • Malnutrition

Such symptoms of chronic kidney disease get recovered with the right approach to the  CKD treatment. If you notice any sign, consult your nephrologist right away and ask for the required diagnostic tests.

Causes

Kidney disease is caused by the conditions that primarily damage the glomeruli and tubules within the kidneys. These damaged blood vessels and capillaries prevent or we can say obstruct the kidney filtration capacity. Though such things take time to develop, usually around 4 to 5 hours before showing any symptoms.

Such causes of CKD may include:

  • Type 1 or type 2 diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • Glomerulonephritis

  • Recurrent kidney infection also called pyelonephritis

  • Interstitial nephritis

  • Polycystic kidney disease

  • Prolonged obstruction in the urinary tract does not allow urine to pass naturally and build in the kidneys

  • Vesicoureteral reflux, backward flow to the kidneys

  • Abnormal kidney structure

  • Congenital disabilities

  • A family history of kidney disease

  • Lifestyle changes

  • Being older age

How can you diagnose chronic kidney disease?

For CKD diagnose, you may need certain tests and procedures, such as:

Blood tests: To know the level of waste such as urea and creatinine.

Urine tests: To know if there is more waste in the urine than the blood. Protein instances are also watched out in urinalysis.

Imaging tests: The doctor may check the kidney structure for any abnormalities such as a CT scan.

A kidney biopsy: It is done by extracting a kidney tissue to know the cause for a kidney problem.

If your test reports signify kidney damage, you should take CKD treatment in Ayurveda at the earliest.
